  Jyotirlinga temples are a group of 12 temples in India located at 12 different locations of India. The legend behind these temples is that once Brahma and Vishnu had a fight over ascendancy of creation, to settle the dispute great Lord Shiva penetrated the 3 worlds and appeared as a huge infinite pillar of light, which was known as the Jyotirlinga. These Jyotirlinga shrines are the sites where it is believed that Shiva appeared as a column of light.
