Delhi Tourism Guide : 10 Must-Visit Monuments

Delhi is the capital city of India. Here there are so many monuments that you will be overwhelmed. That’s why I offer you this handy list of the top 10 Delhi monuments.

Some of these monuments are architecturally unbelievable

On behalf of India By Car and Driver, I bring you this excellent Delhi monument tourism list.

Red Fort: Let’s start with the well-known Red Fort; this architectural brilliance is built only with red sandstone. The fort made by Shahjahan was a center of the Mughal’s politics, and they named it their home for 200 years. Now the prime minister hosts the Indian flag every year on 15th August.

It’s located at Chandni Chowk on Netaji Subhash Road.

Humayun’s Tomb: Here’s another architectural wonder of India’s capital, the Humayun’s Tomb. Hamida Banu built this fort in memory of Humayun, who was this woman’s son. In my opinion, it is a very humble, scenic and respectful place, where you will have a delightful time.

Go to Mathura Road opposite Dargah Nizamuddin to enjoy this attraction.

Qutub Minar: Unless you were living under a rock, you know about the Qutub Minar. The tallest Minar in India is a pillar-like structure made only with red bricks, but once you see it, you wouldn’t want to stop admiring its beauty.

It is situated at Mehrauli near Chattarpur Temple Complex; Saket is the nearest metro station to get to Qutub Minar.

Chotta Qutub Minar: Chotta means small in Hindi, meaning that Chotta Qutub Minar is a miniature replica version of Qutub Minar, but just as beautiful. The Qutub Minar is only 16.87 m, while the original stands at 73 m.

Go to Hastsal Village in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi, to see this beautiful marvel.

India Gate: The India Gate in Delhi is the epitome of patriotism; the structure was built in memory of 70000 British Indian army soldiers martyred in World War I. Below the memorial, you can see the Amar Jawan Jyoti. The India Gate is a sight to behold at night when beautiful lights magnify its glory.

You will find this memorial near Rajpath.

Hauz Khas Fort: This classic example of Mughal architecture with massive domes was built by Emperor Alauddin Khilji to supply infinite water to Siri Fort. The highlight here is Deer Park, which will soothe your soul for sure.

You will find this unique structure in Hauz Khas Village.

Jama Masjid: The Jama Masjid is another classic example of Mughal architecture. One of the biggest mosques in India, it is gorgeous and has elements of Mughal architecture such as domes and pillars. Fun fact, it cost Shahjahan approx 1 million Rs to build it.

You can see it opposite Netaji Subhash Marg near Red Fort.

Rashtrapati Bhawan: You must visit the Rashtrapati Bhawan when you are in Delhi; this is where the Indian president officially lives and does all the hard work. This magnificent 320-acre mansion has 340 rooms with residences for staff and stables. What’s more impressive is the guard changing ceremony, for which everyone comes here.

Go near Gate No 2 on Rajpath to find this iconic building.

Tughlaqabad Fort: It is named after Ghiyas-Ud-din Tughlaq, who built it in 1321 AD. A colossal stone complex, which you will love witnessing if you love war history since it has 15-meter slopping barricading walls, giving you an advantage over the enemy.

The address of this fort is at Mehrauli, Badarpur Road.

Jantar Mantar: If you love astronomy, you must visit Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Another one is in Jaipur, include Agra in your trip to complete your Golden Triangle Tour, but that’s another story. Here you will be astonished by the ancient astronomical gadgets built by Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur.

You will find it at Parliament Street in Connaught Place.

India by Car and Driver recommends the Golden Triangle Tour with Pushkar and the Exclusive Golden Triangle Tour Package by Car for a fun holiday in India.
